The Terra Team were once again helping to showcase British Sign Language and the Deaf Community at the 2016 Language Show Live held at London’s prestigious Kensington Olympia.
For 3 days over October 14th -16th thousands of people visited our stand and were able to access a myriad of informative media about all things BSL and ask our experienced staff all sorts of questions from beginning to learn BSL for themselves to community issues affecting Deaf people.
We were amazed at the massive interest registered by newcomers to begin learning some basic sign language skills, especially from many professionals who were committed to facilitating greater communication and access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals within their respective fields.
We ran 2 packed out taster sessions for those who wanted to see for themselves just how enjoyable learning some basic signs can be and we know that many enjoyed these so much that they are going further to join Terra’s Basic Level 1 Sign Language course.
We also hosted 2 extra sessions of a BSL Language Plus, which enabled students to gain a greater depth of some BSL vocabulary and skills. Feedback from all these classes was brilliant with many expressions of appreciation for the quality and content of the compact but fun events.
