Over 200 people made an appearance at the Deaf Christmas Business Show that took place at the Hackney Empire 2 on Saturday evening, 14thDecember 2013. The event had the aim of highlighting the campaign to promote and increase awareness of Deaf and Hard of Hearing entrepreneurship for both employed and unemployed people. The proportion of Deaf and Disabled people experiencing barriers of access to education, employment and setting up businesses is a much higher percentage than the national average. This event was originally created to do something positive about this imbalance.
The event included an excellent buffet, serving healthy and delicious food and drinks, plus a cool DJ playing great music with heavy vibes for those who like to dance. Yes, Deaf people can dance to the vibrations even if they cannot hear the music!
Of course, how could a Christmas event be complete without the big man in red! It was not only the kids who got to sit on Santa’s lap and receive gifts but some of the grownups too whose names were picked out of a prize draw hat.
From a perspective of those passionate about Deaf issues, being present at a Deaf event where everyone is using BSL (British Sign Language) was an awesome and insightful experience.
The next Deaf Christmas Business Show will take place in Central London on 6th December 2014, 6pm to 12pm.All are welcome to come and take part in this event warranted to inspire and motivate!
More Information on tickets and venue will be posted soon

Terra Consultancy are delighted to announce some fantastic news!
Terra is bringing The Miss and Mister Deaf International Pageant (MMDI) to London from 25th July to 4th August 2014.
MMDI London 2014 is being organised by a very experienced team of Miss and Mister Deaf International Board members in Las Vegas, and Terra Consultancy are extremely proud to have been chosen as their UK organising partner.
While MMDI will be dealing with all the contestant entries and overall pageant format, Terra will be working closely with them in developing the local event programme, including organising the venue, marketing and promotion, ticket sales and initial sponsorship enquiries and opportunities.
Terra will bring to the table our in-depth experience of successful event management and organising Deaf events in the UK with successful logistics, marketing and promotional abilities.
Some of you might remember back last summer when the Deaflympics was in Sofia, I blogged about the great time everyone had there watching the athletes from all over the world.
At the same time as the Deaflympics, the Miss and Mister Deaf International (MMDI) Pageant 2013 took place with dozens of talented young deaf women and men from all around the world competing in a fun beauty and talent contest. These savvy, goal-orientated contestants from all over the world were competing to advance their personal, educational, career, and humanitarian goals, seeking to improve their own lives as well as the lives and goals of others.
It all started back in 2010 in Las Vegas alongside Deaf World Expo and the festival celebrating Deaf artists and performers, fashion designers, musicians, dancers and comedy was where MMDI was launched.
It was such a brilliant success that they held it again in Orlando, Florida in 2011, Ankara, Turkey in 2012 then alongside the Deaflympics in 2013 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The current Miss Deaf International 2013 is Lais Goncalves (Miss Deaf Brazil)
and Mister Deaf International 2013 is Rafael Grombelka (Mrister Deaf Germany).
So now Terra is having brilliant news and brining MMDI 2014 to LONDON this summer !!!
We had London 2012’s amazing Olympics and Paralympics and the brilliant fireworks of our New Year’s Eve celebrations seen all the world – now MMDI !!!
We think MMDI London 2014 will be more popular than ever before, attracting even more contestants, volunteers and spectators from over 25 countries, shining a spotlight on the worldwide Deaf community and highlighting all their positive attributes.
It will help our aims as a not-for profit ViVAsPro organisation that promises to empower, enhance, and support the growing community of Deaf women and men and give a fantastic opportunity for competitors to show their talents.
